Whip up this 6-ingredient tater tot casserole with chicken for a delicious and easy dinner! The recipe is perfect for busy nights when you don’t want to spend much time in the kitchen. The recipe combines tender chicken, crispy tater tots, and creamy soups for a comforting and hearty dinner.

Ingredients

  • Chicken breasts, cooked and shredded (or shredded rotisserie chicken)
  • Cream of chicken soup and cheddar cheese soup
  • Sour cream
  • Minced onion
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and paper
  • Frozen tater tots

How To Make The Casserole

Start by adding the shredded chicken to a large mixing bowl. Then add the minced onion, salt, pepper, soup, and sour cream to the bowl. Add 3/4 cup of the cheese and mix well.

Next, pour the chicken mixture into the greased 9×13-inch baking dish and sprinkle shredded cheese on top. Line the top of the casserole with tater tots and bake at 350 degrees for about 60-70 minutes or until the tater tots are golden brown. Broil the tater tots for about five minutes at the end to get them nice and crispy.

Optional Ingredients

If you want to add extra ingredients to the dish to create a different flavor, here are a few ideas.

  • Crumbled bacon and ranch seasoning.
  • Peas, corn, green beans, or mixed vegetables.

Storage and Reheating Instructions

Store any leftovers in an airtight container or cover them with plastic wrap, and refrigerate them. To reheat, place some in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in one-minute increments until the casserole is heated throughout. I usually heat it up for two to three minutes.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 skinless boneless chicken breasts cooked and shredded
  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 10.5 ounce can cream of condensed chicken soup
  • 10.5 ounce can cream of condensed cheddar cheese soup
  • 1-1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 28 ounce bag frozen tater tots
  • Optional: pinch of salt and pepper

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
  • Add the cooked shredded chicken to a large bowl.
  • Next, add the minced onion, soups, sour cream, salt, and pepper, and 3/4 cup of shredded cheese.
  • Spread the chicken mixture in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and top with the remainder of the cheese.
  • Place the tater tots on top and bake for 60-70 minutes or until the tater tots are golden brown.
  • To get crispy tater tots, broil for five minutes at the end. (Be sure to stay close by, as they will burn fast under the broiler.)

I cooked the chicken breasts and shredded them ahead of time. You can also use rotisserie chicken for the recipe.
