Can I prep this the night before?

    1. Julie Pollitt says:

      Hi Emily,

You can, but you will need to make sure your potatoes don’t get brown. You can slice them and place them into a bowl of water and keep refrigerated. Hope you love the dish!

@Julie Pollitt, I ended up putting everything (except the cream) in the inside of the crock pot and put it in the fridge. Let it sit out a little bit, added the cream and started it. Fingers crossed it works lol This recipe looks awesome! Can’t wait to try it tonight!

After nine hours the potatoes are still raw. I even turned the temperature to high the last two hours. My crockpot is very reliable and the potatoes were thinly sliced. The meat had nice flavor.

      Hi,

I am glad you liked the flavor. Did you have a good seal on the top of your Crock Pot? That could have kept them from cooking properly.

  3. I used 2 pounds thawed cubed hash brown potatoes, and just added to the dutch oven pot when meat was cooked, along with rest of ingredients except the cheese and let it simmer till done. Add in cheese and turn the heat off and let sit covered a few minutes, then it stirs in easily. It took around half an hour.

That sounds good! How did you like it that way? Thanks for sharing so we can try it, too!

  5. looks really good but I think instead of putting a dried onion I would just chop up an onion probably saute it in a little bit of butter or olive oil before putting it in

That is always a good plan!!

I switched out cream of cheddar cheese soup for cream of mushroom soup since there’s so much cheddar cheese already. I also added 1 block of cream cheese, diced, and stirred 30 minutes before serving.

That’s what I love about this recipe – versatility! I hope you loved it!
