  • Ground beef
  • Ketchup
  • Yellow mustard
  • Brown sugar
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Minced onion

How To Make Sloppy Joes

Raw ground beef with minced onion in a skillet.

Add the ground beef and minced onion to a large skillet and brown. Drain the grease.

Ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar in a skillet with cooked ground beef.

After draining the grease, add the ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Add a pinch of salt and ground black pepper if desired. Place a lid on the skillet and let it simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Storage and Reheating Instructions

Store any sloppy joe leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate them. To reheat, place some in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in the microwave for two to three minutes or until the meat is heated through.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon of minced onion
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Optional: pinch of salt and pepper hamburger buns, cheese

Instructions
 

  • Add the ground beef and minced onion to a large skillet and cook over medium heat. Drain the grease.
  • Next, add the ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce to the pan and mix well. Simmer for 10-15 minutes with the lid on the skillet.
  • Serve on hamburger buns.

Notes

You can add diced bell peppers and onions if you like. Just dice them and add them to the pan while cooking the ground beef.

    My mom always made her sloppy joes with ; onion , celery , ketchup,and yellow mustard . Simple and tasty . Sometimes we would even make it with leftover cooked turkey instead of ground beef . May sound strange , but I suggest you try it .

    I halved this recipe for 1 person. Next time I will use less mustard and less catsup. The recipe amount for 1 lb. of hamburger was overpowering. Regardless of that fact, it was very tasty and I will make again after tweaking recipe .
