How To Make The Casserole

Bottom Layer

Start by draining the juice off the canned yams. Then, add the yams to a large mixing bowl and mash them. Next, add the milk, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract and mix well.

Add the eggs and mix until combined. Melt the butter and add it to the mixture and mix well. Pour the mashed sweet potatoes into the bottom of the slow cooker.

Brown Sugar Pecan Layer

Add the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and pecans to a mixing bowl for the top layer. Add the melted butter and stir until everything is combined. Spread it over the top of the sweet potatoes, cover with the lid, and bake on high for 3-1/2 hours.

If you want to add some marshmallows, add them at the end, place the lid on top, and cook another 10-15 minutes or until the marshmallows have melted.

  1. what size crockpot/slow cooker would you suggest? I didn’t see it listed

    1. Julie Pollitt says:

      Hi Natalee,

I have a 6-quart slow cooker and that was the perfect size. You can cut the recipe in half and use a smaller slow cooker if needed. Hope that helps!
