How to Make Rock Candy

Rock, or glass candy (as a friend of mine calls it), is a great and easy treat to make for the holidays. It not only tastes delicious, but looks beautiful!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2/3 cup light corn syrup
  • Food Coloring of your choice
  • Spoonful powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Spray a 15"x10" cookie sheet with non stick spray.
  • Combine sugar, water, and corn syrup in a medium saucepan. Stir the ingredients.
  • Boil until 25-30 minutes, on medium-high, until candy thermometer reaches 300-degrees.
  • Take it off the burner and add the food coloring. Stir until well blended.
  • Pour onto cookie sheet.
  • Let it cool.
  • Carefully crack the homemade hard candy with a knife or something sharp.
  • Add the candy to a large bag and add a spoonful of powdered sugar.
  • Gently shake the candy until covered with powdered sugar.

Notes

Make sure you set the cookie sheet on a heat-safe counter or an oven mitt because the pan will get very hot when you pour the hot mixture onto the sheet.
